Messages From God's Word

Sermons on the Life of Abraham:

Genesis 15. Do you ever get tired of having to live by faith? Abram did -- and God
refreshed his faith by giving him two encouraging signs: the stars and an awesome
covenant ceremony.
Genesis 16. Though God refreshed Abram's faith (see chapter 15), his faith was
pressured by practical considerations -- and by Sarah's suggestion that he father a child
by her servant girl, Hagar. Thankfully, the LORD is the God who sees.
Genesis 17. Here we see what Abraham learned when he, by faith, was face down
before El Shaddai (God Almighty).
Genesis 18:1-15. Here God asked (and answered) a rhetorical question: "Is anything too
difficult for the LORD?" It's the kind of question that confronts and overcomes our doubts.
Genesis 18:16-33. In His covenant mercy, God confided in Abraham, telling him what He
intended to do about the wicked twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham
responded by praying -- by asking God to spare his nephew, Lot, who was living in
Sodom. Did the
Judge of All The Earth do what was right?
Genesis 19. God revealed both His justice and His mercy in the destruction of Sodom
and Gomorrah. May we "flee to our lives" to Christ, in whom God's justice and mercy
perfectly meet.
Genesis 20. God was (and is) so good. His faithfulness overwhelmed Abraham's
fear-driven doubts!
Genesis 21. God did exactly what He had promised when Isaac was born. This passage
reveals: (a) God's emphatic faithfulness, (b) Abraham's happy family, (c) Ishmael's tragic
laughter, and (d) God's good providence.
New!  Genesis 22. Here we find the origin of proverb among the people of Israel, "On
the mountain of the LORD it will be provided." In this passage God tested Abraham's
faith. But God provided to Abraham the ability to trust Him. And at just the right moment
God provided the Savior we all need.
New!  Genesis 23. For Abraham, the death of his wife Sarah was a time of grief. He also
had to arrange for her burial by purchasing a grave in Canaan. But Sarah's grave was
also a symbol of hope. It was like a "down payment" on greater things to come.

Did you know you have something in common with grass and flowers? Like them, time

What does it mean for us to pray, "Yours is the kingdom, power and glory forever"? This
message explores what King David meant when he filled a prayer with such words -- and
how they can both humble and encourage us when we pray.

Is guilt something that's real or is it a figment of our imaginations? When Jesus taught us
to pray, He assumed that guilt is real and that we need God (1) to forgive us and (2) to
help us forgive each other.

In the Lord's Prayer, Jesus taught us to say, "Hallowed be Your name." But why? What's
the big deal about God's name -- and the way we use it?

When Jesus rose from the dead, He didn't immediately ascend to heaven. He stayed on
earth a while to assure His followers that He really conquered death. We see this in
Luke 24:13-36, when the Risen Jesus walked with two of His followers on the road to
Emmaus.

That Is True".
